On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning Lauren (and I) actually got out of bed early and the family headed off to encourage Lauren who was set to participate in the Dressage to Music Competition hosted by Oaklands Horseriding Club. It goes without saying that it was a day to remember. With a wonderful group of relatives and friends (who also got out of bed) there to encourage Lauren on, she made us all proud!
Lauren has been most fortunate to be given the opportunity to develop horseriding with Riding for the Disabled over a number of years. Such has been her development that she was invited to prepare and participate in this Dressage to Music competition, which involved both special needs and mainstream riders.
So how did she go? Check out her routine also on this website (2011 dressage) Lauren was awarded 2nd place in the RDA section and in a most surprising result she was awarded the overall Judges Award for her ability to control her horse Missy independently!
Well done Lauren! You are an inspiration to us all.
I take this opportunity to thank all the generous volunteers who make this sort of wonderful opportunity possible. I never cease to be amazed by the generosity of people to do things voluntarily out of pure generosity. This thank you to extends to all the RDA volunteers but it would be remise of me to not particularly thank Therese, Maria, Keith and Irene for the for their outstanding work and support of Lauren. She could not have done it without you.
And of course, well done to Missy for an outstanding performance! Together Missy and Lauren made for a beautifully looking, remarkable team.
