Thursday October 20th was certainly a day to cherish when Lauren got to meet the most amazing Cyndi Lauper. Lauren L-O-V-E-S Cyndi and her favorite song ‘Girls just want to have fun’ is Lauren’s theme song I do believe. It came about when I wrote an email to the wonderful Angela who was managing the launch of Kinky Boots in Melbourne. Cyndi Lauper wrote the score for Kinky Boots and was in Melbourne for opening night. The wonderful Angela approached Cyndi’s team and word came back that Lauren would have a 1:1 meet and greet with her idol Cyndi.
Lauren was pumped! Janelle painted Lauren’s nails ‘Kinky Red’ and Jess put a red streak in Lauren’s hair! It was all very exciting as we headed off to the Sofitel to meet Cyndi.
I was so worried that Lauren would not talk but Cyndi’s natural warmth quickly allowed Lauren to feel at ease. It was instantly obvious that both Cyndi and Lauren were gentle souls. They hit it off discussing important issues like Kinky Nails, Red hair and how it is true that girls just want to have fun. Lauren was all smiles and did so much talking that I was incredibly proud of her. Cyndi was impressed by the LEGO flowers Lauren gave her (made with the help of Shelly). Cyndi signed a copy of her book and a photo that Lauren will hang on her wall. It was truly lovely.
Lauren was delighted to learn that Cyndi had plans to tour in 2017 and Cyndi and her manager gave us her business card inviting Lauren to get in touch in April so the two could catch up again and ‘Lauren could teach Cyndi how to play a Christmas Carol on the piano”, What a thrill for Lauren! I just hope they meant it as Lauren is very literal and has already started learning ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’!
So what a thrill for Lauren! Sooooo grateful to Angela for making such a special event happen. Sooooooo grateful to the incredible Cyndi Lauper for taking the time in her frenetic program to spend time with Lauren. It was such a beautiful experience for Lauren. Lauren spent a good 10 minutes talking and hugging Cyndi. She has spent considerably more time telling everyone who will listen about how she met Cyndi. What a joyous day for a lucky lucky girl.
Then on the Sunday Lauren and I went to see the magnificent show ‘Kinky Boots’. It is fantastic+++++ and lived up to our highest expectations. What a great week to remember!
