It was with great excitement that Lauren embarked on her City Experience week with her fellow Year 9 students. This mainstream school based program is intended to give students an experience of the city.

As it was Lauren who experienced the week I have asked her to write a short piece on her week.

“I loved City Experience. It was lots of fun because I love going to the city. I loved Federation Square because I like the shapes on the walls. I liked going to the State Library because it had a dome. Eureka Tower was fun and I went on the edge with my friends in 9B. The photo of was very nice.

I also went to the market and the cup cake shop. I went to lots of places but I can’t remember. We walked a lot but it was fine. It was cold and I wore mum’s gloves.

I was very lucky because I was able to buy Sushi for lunch on Wednesday and sushi is my favorite food. On Thursday I had chips, fish and potato cakes which was nice to eat on a cold day. On Friday we had a party to celebrate the end of City Week. I got a certificate for participating in City Week”.

Lauren had a great time but she did require an individual program for the week and considerable support. Thanks to her two aides and Mrs S for supporting Lauren so that the week was a real success. The school also deserves acknowledgement as Lauren’s participation took significant resources….resources that I dare say not all schools would invest. Yet Lauren now has an experience that she and we can all build on and for that we are very grateful.
