Last week Lauren presented her ‘Book Bag’ task to her class.
The class task was to read a book and present an oral to the class which involved telling the class all about the book with the help of a bag filled with relevant items prompted by the chosen book.
This task was modified for Lauren through an ILP which replaced the need for her to write her own speech. Instead of writing a speech she chose a book of interest and learnt it off by heart.
We chose the wonderful, beautiful book ‘The Giraffe who got in a knot’ by John Bush and Lauren set to work learning by heart line by line. Things were progressing pretty well as the tale of Cardwell Giraffe progressed through his eating himself into a knot, seeking the help of his jungle friends including zebra, ostrich and the elephants. Bindu Bird’s role in the plot proved the trickiest but to Lauren’s credit she persevered which proved to be a good decision because once over this part of the story, the rest was less taxing.
By the time the day of the presentation rolled around, Lauren was ready and confident. Armed with her book bag full of minature jungle animals, ostrich feathers and even a cypher tree Lauren was ready to impress.
As I was not in the classroom to hear her recital I will quote from her Aide via the communication book:
“WOW! What can I say….Lauren did an Excellent, Excellent, Excellent job on her book bag.
A+++! Everybody was impressed and she had all the class near tears. Mrs B-W was also very impressed. Great job Lauren – Keep it up! I took Lauren to Ms J to get an award for this but she was busy. Don’t worry, I will try again on Monday!”
Well done Lauren! Yet again you remind us what you are capable when set up to succeed.
Proud mother,
Dianne
