What an exciting week it has been for young Lauren!
On Tuesday 14th June, Lauren and I went to Kylie Minogue’s first Melbourne Concert. Lauren was so excited as Kylie is as much of a “favourite” as her beloved Delta these days.
I had written an email a few weeks ago to Kylie’s management mentioning how much Lauren was looking forward to the concert, but had no reply. So upon arrival I popped into the front office at Rod Laver and was fortunate enough to talk to a man named Terry who was the duty manager for the night. This chance meeting with Terry was to prove a blessing!
I spoke to Terry briefly about Lauren and how much she loved Kylie. He suggested we write Kylie a little note which both Lauren and I did.
As Lauren and I sat in our seats waiting for the concert to begin Terry approached Lauren with a photo personally signed by Kylie saying “Lauren, all the best with the piano. Love Kylie.” Lauren had already been smiling from ear to ear and the photo had her absolutely beaming! I could have kissed this stranger…..who played the role of stranger for the night. (In fact, I think I did kiss him from recollection!!!!)
And if this was not enough, Terry came back during the concert and asked Lauren if she was happy to come with him. Lauren is usually Mummy’s little girl and doesn’t stray too far from me but having given her the adored signed photo seemed happy enough to take Terry’s hand and off they went. Terry took her right up the front and to the side where Lauren sat and saw her idol up close. By coincidence one of the songs Kylie was singing at the time was “I believe in You” which seemed so appropriate when it comes to Lauren.
All in all it was a fantastic night. Kylie put on a fantastic performance. It was a night filled with not just great music and dancing, but also one filled with joy, hope….and a reminder that angels do exist! Whatsmore, we will frame Kylie’s signed photo and feature it proudly on Lauren’s piano to provide an extra dose of motivation as Lauren prepares for her Grade 4 Piano exam (hopefully in November).
