Lauren has been doing swimming lessons for longer than I can remember. I have often wondered just how many laps I have sat poolside to watch over more than 10 years! Well all that got swept to the side yesterday, Friday 28th Sept,2012 when Lauren successfully completed her 1km swim!
40 laps! That is a long way. It is actually 20 laps more than Lauren had ever attempted. So you will understand that why I was not necessarily brimming with confidence. But yet again, Lauren rose to the challenge. In fact, Lauren completed the swim in 34minutes and 35 seconds! I myself could not believe it (remember we are talking about a young person who has only two speeds – slow and slower!).
So yet again, my inspirational daughter reminds us all to refrain from setting the bar too low. Yet again, Lauren encourages us to take risks in our goal setting and above all to give our special kids the opportunity to do the activities that regular kids get to do. I am so proud of you Lauren…..Enjoy your achievement and your Gold Medal!You are a star!
